The budget for major renovations at the Vankleek Hill Community Centre was formally approved by Champlain Township Council on August 11.

The entire concrete arena floor is being replaced. Other renovations being made to the building include roof repairs, painting and wall repairs, new entry doors, new rubber flooring, reconfiguration of restrooms, and making bleacher access compliant with accessibility regulations.

Federal and provincial funding has been secured for the project, but the exact details of that funding are still being worked out.

Councillor Peter Barton asked about the timeline for the work.

“They have a deadline to finish everything in August 2023,” responded Director of Parks and Recreation Lisa Burroughs.

Due to the renovations taking place at the Vankleek Hill Community Centre, hockey and broomball teams that normally use the arena rink have to make alternative arrangements in other communities for the 2022-2023 season. The Vankleek Hill Cougars Junior C hockey club will play its games out of the Robert Hartley Sport Complex in Hawkesbury during the upcoming season.
