During the period of August 8 to August 21, 2022, officers with the Russell County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to more than 680 calls for service. These included:
Five charged with impaired driving
On August 11, 2022, shortly before 11:15 p.m., a Russell County OPP officer stopped a motorist for a traffic related offence on County Road 17 in the City of Clarence-Rockland.
During the investigation, the officer utilized an Approved Screening Device (ASD). The driver was arrested and transported to detachment for further testing.
A 22-year-old man from Clarence-Creek was charged under the Criminal Code (CC), Tobacco Tax Act (TTA) and Highway Traffic Act (HTA) with:
- Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus) CC 320.14(1)(b)
- Operation while impaired – alcohol CC 320.14(1)(a)
- Drive motor vehicle – Perform stunt – Excessive speed HTA 172(1)
- Novice driver – B.A.C. above zero HTA 44.1(3)
- Possess unmarked cigarettes TTA 29(2)
On August 12, 2022, shortly before 5:45 p.m., a Russell County OPP officer stopped a motorist for a traffic related offence on County Road 17 in the City of Clarence-Rockland.
During the investigation, the officer utilized an ASD. The driver was arrested and transported to detachment for further testing.
A 41-yeaar-old male from Rockland was charged with:
- Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus) CC 320.14(1)(b)
- Operation while impaired – alcohol CC 320.14(1)(a)
- Operation while prohibited under the Criminal Code CC 320.18(1)(a)
- Red light – Fail to stop HTA 144(18)
- Novice driver – B.A.C. above zero HTA 44.1(3)
On August 13, 2022, shortly after 11:45 p.m., Russell County OPP officers were conducting a RIDE Program on South Russell Road in Russell.
During the investigation, the officer utilized an ASD. The driver was arrested and transported to detachment for further testing.
A 25-year-old male from North Dundas Township, was charged with:
- Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus) CC 320.14(1)(b)
- Operation while impaired – alcohol CC 320.14(1)(a)
On August 19, 2022, shortly before 11:15 p.m., a Russell County OPP officer stopped a motorist on Eadie Road in Russell.
During the investigation, the officer utilized an ASD. The driver was arrested and transported to detachment for further testing.
A 47-year-old female from Russell, was charged with:
- Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus) CC 320.14(1)(b)
- Operation while impaired – alcohol CC 320.14(1)(a)
On August 21, 2022, at approximately 12:15 a.m., a Russell County OPP officer stopped a motorist on Eadie Road in Russell.
During the investigation, the officer utilized an ASD. The driver was arrested and transported to detachment for further testing.
A 55-year-old man from Russell was charged with:
- Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus) CC 320.14(1)(b)
- Operation while impaired – alcohol CC 320.14(1)(a)
The motorists received a 90-day driver’s licence suspension and the vehicles were also impounded for seven days.
The accused are scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in L’Orignal at a later date.
Assault Charge Laid in domestic dispute
On August 18, 2022, shortly before 3 a.m., Russell County OPP officers responded to a domestic disturbance in Rockland.
During the investigation, it was determined that a physical altercation occurred between two adults.
As a result of the investigation, a 31-year-old, from Rockland, was charged with:
- Assault – Spousal CC 266
- Uttering Threats – Cause death or bodily harm – Spousal CC 264.1(1)(a)
The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in L’Orignal at a later date.
