A provincial election in Québec will be held on October 3. Premier François Legault officially announced the beginning of the campaign on Sunday, August 28. As leader of the Coalition Avenir Québec (CAQ), Legault formed a majority government in the National Assembly of Québec after the 2018 election. 

The Argenteuil riding comprises the entire territory of the Municipalité régionale du comté (MRC) d’Argenteuil, and parts of the MRC Les Laurentides, MRC des Pays-d’en-Haut, and the MRC La Rivière-du-Nord.  

The Parti Vert du Québec (Green Party) candidate in Argenteuil is Luis Alvarez. He is 26 years old and moved to Canada as a refugee at age nine. He has a degree in International Development from McGill University and is particularly concerned about the environment and homelessness. 

Dr. Karim Elayoubi is the Parti conservateur du Québec candidate in Argenteuil. Elayoubi is a physician at the Lachute hospital and has so far focused heavily on problems in the health care system. Éric Duhaime is Leader of the Parti conservateur du Québec. 

In Argenteuil, Agnès Grondin is the CAQ candidate. She was elected as the Member of the National Assembly of Québec for Argenteuil in 2018. Before entering provincial politics, Grondin worked as an environmental consultant for the MRC d’Argenteuil. 

Marcel Lachaine is a candidate for Québec Solidaire in the riding of Argenteuil. Lachaine has lived in the district for 20 years. He is retired and previously worked for Emploi Québec in human resources and training in small and medium-sized businesses. Lachaine is also involved with social solidarity activities in the community. Québec Solidaire does not have a party leader, but instead has two spokespersons who are Manon Massé and Gabriel Nadeau-Dubois. 

The Parti Liberal du Québec (PLQ) candidate in Argenteuil is Philippe LeBel. A microbiologist by profession, LeBel has been making efforts to reveal weaknesses in the CAQ record on health and language issues. The current PLQ Leader is Dominique Anglade. 

As of August 13, the Parti Québécois (PQ) had not yet nominated a candidate in Argenteuil. Paul St-Pierre-Plamondon is the Leader of the PQ. 

According to Élections Québec, the Argenteuil provincial riding has a population of 58,865, and 47,351 registered voters. In Québec, voter registration at the polling station on election day is not permitted. Any Québec resident who can properly prove they have a permanent home in Québec and is 18 years of age or older may vote.
