Emergency Department service at Glengarry Memorial Hospital in Alexandria has returned to normal.

The department had been subjected to reduced hours in recent weeks due to shortage of staff.

Through gradual resumption planning, the hospital was able to resume full 24-hour Emergency Department service seven days per week as of August 22, 2022. Changes to schedules, nurses continuing to work additional shifts, onboarding 9 new and returning nurses, and partnering with nurse staffing agencies have all been contributors to the safe resumption plan.

Glengarry Memorial Hospital continues to actively recruit Registered Nurses and Registered Practical Nurses. Recently, it has been announced that eligible nurses can receive up to $25,000 to work at the hospital through the Community Commitment Program for Nurses sponsored by the Government of Ontario, for a 24 month return of service.
