The Société d’histoire des Filles du Roy (SHFR) held an open house at the Ouimet Farms Adventure in Vankleek Hill last Friday, July 29, which gave invited guests an opportunity to learn about the group and French Canadians who settled in Ontario.

Guests learned about the purpose of the group’s project ‘Les Filles du Roy sur la route Champlain’ and were introduced to the history of Les Filles du Roy, who came to settle in New France from 1663 to 1673. The SHFR has set up a display in the barn at Ouimet Farms Adventure which provides information on the invaluable legacy they left behind: their culture, their customs, their beliefs, their values, their know-how and their beautiful French language. The exhibition will remain on display at the site through the 2022 season.

“We will be busy during the year and hopefully people will come to see the exhibition,” said Annette Ouimet Assad, who organized the event and the display. “It tells the history of les Filles du Roy, but it also tells the history of the French Canadians who came to settle in Ontario.”
