The Vankleek Hill Junior Cougars Hockey Club’s fourth annual 3-Pitch softball tournament was a huge success last weekend (July 15 to 17) at the Grenville Community Park ball diamond.

The Mixed Competitive Division featured a tie in the final game between the teams from Auto Sans Limite and Brew Crew. In Women’s Division, the Her-ricaines took top spot, with the Rockies finishing as runner ups.

But the big winner on the weekend was the Vankleek Hill Cougars Hockey Club, which raised $4,000 from the event, which had 18 teams competing.

MLB draft makes history

History was made on July 17 at the Major League Baseball Draft, when four of the first five selections made were Black players.

Picked from number 2 to 5 were Druw Jones by Arizona, Kumar Rocker by Texas, Termarr Johnson by Pittsburgh and Elijah Green by Washington. It was the first time in history that four of the top five selections were Black players.

Druw Jones, the son of former MLBer and Hall of Fame candidate Andruw Jones, is a center fielder out of Wesleyan High School in Georgia.
