The Hawkesbury Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has arrested five potential vehicle thieves in Hawkesbury.

On June 4, at 2:30 a.m., on Main Street in the Town of Hawkesbury, officers intercepted a vehicle which contained five individuals who were in possession of tools that facilitate the theft of vehicles. The accused’s are facing charges, under the Criminal Code of Canada.

An 18-year-old male from Montreal, Quebec, is facing:

·        Possession of Automobile master Key tool

·        Possession of break in instruments

·        Possession of proceeds from property obtained by crime under $5,000

·        Failure to comply with release order – other than to attend court (3 counts)

·        Failure to comply with Undertaking

An 18-year-old male from Montreal, Quebec, is facing:

·        Possession of proceeds from property obtained by crime under $5,000

A 17-year-old male from Montreal, Quebec, will be facing:

·        Possession of Automobile master Key tool

·        Possession of break in instruments

·        Possession of proceeds from property obtained by crime under $5,000

Another 17-year-old male from Montreal, Quebec, will be facing:

·        Possession of Automobile master Key tool

·        Possession of break in instruments

·        Possession of proceeds from property obtained by crime under $5,000

An 18-year-old male from Brampton, Ontario, will be facing:

·        Possession of Automobile master Key tool

·        Possession of break in instruments

·        Possession of proceeds from property obtained by crime under $5,000

The accused’s were released from custody and are scheduled to appear at the L’Orignal Court of Justice on July 6, 2022.

You can help prevent theft by following some crime prevention tips:

·           Always roll up your vehicle’s windows, lock the doors and pocket the key.

·           If you have a garage, use it and lock the door as well as your vehicle.

·           Park other vehicles behind your high value vehicle to act as a deterrent to thieves.

·           Install an aftermarket anti-theft device in your vehicle in a location not easily visible.

·           Install a third-party GPS tracking device in the vehicle.

·           Keep your vehicle key fobs in a Faraday Box.

·           Never leave your vehicle unattended while it is running.
