The Alzheimer Society will be hosting its annual IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer events during the month of May, with walks scheduled in both Alexandria and Rockland on the weekend of May 14 and 15.

The walk is Canada’s biggest fundraiser for Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias and everyone is welcome to come and participate. Walks will take place at  two area locations over the weekend.

Rockland will host its walk beginning at Parc Alain-Potvin Park, located at 1245 Docteur Corbeil Boulevard on Saturday, May 14. from 9 a.m. until noon. In Alexandria, the walk will begin at the Tim Horton’s Dome, 202 St George Street West, on Sunday, May 15, from 9 a.m. until noon.

Participants can register the day of the event and bring their donations to the locations above. They can also register online at walkforalzheimers.ca and do an online fundraising campaign.

Registrations will open at 9 a.m. and opening ceremonies will take place at 9:30 a.m. The Alzheimer Society will have its Cornwall & District Executive Director, board members, government representatives, persons with lived dementia and caregivers speaking at the events.

Each walk will commence at 10 a.m. and go until 11 a.m. Closing ceremonies will be at 11 a.m. where the top fundraiser, top team fundraiser, and the top retirement residence fundraiser will be announced.

Funds raised for this event will go to support local programs and services offered by the Alzheimer Society of Cornwall & District, such as caregiver support, education and the adult day program in Forest Park and Hawkesbury.
