I thoroughly enjoyed Mr. Affleck’s letter from last week concerning the possible sighting of bears in Champlain Township.
Although I reside just at the limit of Champlain, in The Nation Township, I know we have bears in our communities. I have captured black bears on my trail camera twice at night, as bears are mostly nocturnal.
Once in 2017 and once in 2019, one enjoyed devouring the buds on my newly planted apple tree (see photo). Both were behind our house on Concession 2. We’re down the road from Wilson Farms, so not close to traffic or the busy traffic in town.
Always great to see wildlife flourishing, especially with all the clear cutting.
