The Township of Alfred and Plantagenet saw a significant drop in the number of new residential units constructed in 2021 compared to the previous year.

Overall building construction activity in Alfred and Plantagenet was down in 2021. According to a report delivered to council by Chief Building Official Martin Taillefer on January 19, 205 construction permits were issued between the beginning of January and the end of December 2021. A total of 221 construction permits were issued in Alfred and Plantagenet during the calendar year for 2020.  

The largest drop was in the building of new residential homes, which fell by more than half. In 2020, 84 new residential units were constructed in Alfred and Plantagenet. In 2021, the number of new residential units constructed in the township decreased to 36.  

Total construction value in Alfred and Plantagenet in 2021 was $12,164,647. The total 2020 value was $15,939,896.17. Construction permit revenue for the township in 2020 was $179,622.61 and in 2021 it was $125,463.22. 

Six residential demolition permits were issued in Alfred and Plantagenet in 2021. In 2020, seven demolition permits were issued.
