The Hawkesbury and District General Hospital (HGH) Foundation held a new type of golf event this fall. Thanks to the support of their sponsors and the surrounding communities, the event was a great success and helped raise close to $25,000 for our regional hospital.

From September 24 to 30, golfers had the chance to enjoy a great day on the course, at the participating golf club of their choice, on the day of their choice during the event’s week – all while supporting a great cause.

People were invited to play golf at a regional participating golf club in Prescott-Russell and western Québec. Thank you to the managers and staff of the Hawkesbury Golf & Curling, Rockland Golf Club, Nation Golf Club, Casselview Golf and Country Club, Club de golf Lachute, and Golf Héritage for their collaboration for this event.

During the week of the event, at their tee-off time, golfers were asked if they would like to participate in the foundation’s “Golf for the HGH Foundation” fundraising event by paying a $5 event entry fee. There were event prizes for the top foursome, top female golfer, and top male golfer. There were also some amazing participation prizes that were given by random draw.

“Due to the pandemic, we hesitated to offer our traditional golf tournament this year; so, we came up with this new concept for a golf fundraising event,” said Christine Gray St-Denis, Philanthropic Projects Coordinator for the HGH Foundation. “We were able to reach a larger area with this event, and the new format enabled more people to be able to participate while supporting a great cause.”

“We would like to thank everyone who golfed for the HGH Foundation and we are particularly appreciative for the generous support of our sponsors, without whom this event would not have been possible.”

The profits from this event will be directed towards the HGH Foundation’s current campaign, ‘There’s No Place Like Home’. This campaign will support the purchase of essential medical equipment needed to bring new services to HGH, such as cataract surgery, knee and hip replacements, advanced 3D mammography, and more. It will enable access to more specialty care, closer to home, with a focus on enhancing services in orthopedic surgery, urology, ophthalmology, endoscopy, and advanced mammography. Support from the community will help ensure that our loved ones can receive specialty medical care at HGH without the need to travel elsewhere.

“The sponsors, donors, participants, and volunteers have all contributed to making this event such a success,” said Erin Tabakman, Executive Director of the HGH Foundation. “Thanks to each of you, we have raised important funds for our hospital.”

“We are so grateful and touched by your amazing support, which will have a direct impact on the lives of HGH’s patients and their families.”

The Board of Directors and Staff of the HGH Foundation, as well as the event’s organizing committee, wish to thank all participants, sponsors, golf clubs, and volunteers for their support of the HGH Foundation and this fundraising event.
