Remembrance Day is November 11, and Royal Canadian Legion Branch 71 Brownsburg ceremonially presented Grenville Mayor Pierre Thauvette with the village’s first poppy on October 29 at the village’s community centre. Michel Bonenfant represented the branch and was also joined by branch President Sheila Parks and Laurentian District Commandant Trevor Holmes. Bonenfant served in the Canadian Armed Forces as an air force reservist, and Holmes served in the army’s Royal Montreal Regiment from 1945 to 1952.

Brownsburg will be holding a complete Remembrance Day ceremony at the cenotaph on November 11 at 11 a.m. Soldiers from the Royal 22 Regiment will be participating.

Bonenfant said first poppies are frequently presented to mayors and this was the first time one had been presented in Grenville. Holmes and Parks were busy delivering poppies to businesses and other public facilities across the region on October 29.
