Heavy traffic is expected on highways across Québec this Labour Day weekend and the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) is asking drivers to be careful.
The Highway Safety Code aims to ensure all drivers are safe on the road network.
Speed, reckless driving, distraction, impaired driving, and not wearing a seat belt are still the main causes of serious and fatal collisions in Quebec.
Since the start of the summer period, 33 people have died in 31 collisions involving motorcycles. On the same date last year, 37 people died in 36 crashes involving motorcycles. Motorcyclists should make sure to be seen. Wearing clothes and accessories that reflect light or are fluorescent with reflective strips is recommended.
Last year, five fatal collisions occurred in the territory of the Sûreté du Québec during the long Labour Day holiday.
