Clarence-Rockland city council has appointed Mario Zanth as the city’s new mayor.
Zanth will be sworn in at the September 8 regular council meeting and will hold the position for the remainder of the current term, which ends at the 2022 municipal election.
The Ward 2 seat which Zanth has occupied as a councillor since the 2014 election will become vacant. Council will address the procedures to follow to fill the position shortly.
Clarence-Rockland had been officially without a mayor since August 4, following the passing of former mayor Guy Desjardins on July 3.
Due to his appointment as mayor, Zanth will also become Clarence-Rockland’s representative on the United Counties of Prescott and Russell council.
