Glengarry and surrounding area golfers will have the opportunity to participate in a tournament to raise funds for both the Special Olympics and the Glengarry Hospital Foundation on Friday, August 27, at the Glengarry Golf and Country Club.

The DWIGHT is named in memory of Dwight R. Proudfoot, who was a long-time participant of the fundraising tournament for Special Olympics Ontario, and a friend of John Hope, who is the major sponsor of the event. Hope wanted to have an ongoing tribute to his friend, who sadly passed away in July of 2020. After pitching the idea of naming the tournament to family members, the DWIGHT was born.

The tournament will benefit both the Special Olympics Ontario and the Hôpital Glengarry Memorial Hospital Foundation (HGMH).

“Special Olympics is delighted to be part of the DWIGHT, honouring a big hearted guy, while supporting two great causes.” said Glenn MacDonell, CEO of Special Olympics Ontario and a Glengarry native.

“The foundation is very pleased to join forces with the Ontario Special Olympics to present the DWIGHT Golf Tournament,” said HGMH Foundation Board Chair Pierre Vaillancourt, noting the foundation’s gratitude for Hope Holdings’ sponsorship of the event. “We hope to sell out this tournament and raise much needed funds to be shared between the foundation and Ontario Special Olympics.”

The cost of $125 per player ($500 per foursome) includes a gift, a golf cart and lunch. To register before August 20, please call Pamela at 613-525-2222, extension 4138, or send an email to [email protected].
