The Township of Champlain will be repairing some sidewalks in Vankleek Hill and L’Orignal, starting July 5, 2021 and likely go to early August.

Traffic will be permitted at all times. Parking restrictions will be in place in the work area. Motorists and pedestrians are asked to please respect the construction signage.

At all times, access to properties and businesses located in the work area will be preserved. During sidewalk reconstruction operations, pedestrian traffic will be re-directed to the sidewalk located on the other side of the road.

Hydro pole replacements on Higginson Street

Hydro One will be replacing hydro poles at the intersections of Home and Higginson Streets and Main Street East and Highway 34 from Saturday, July 10, 10 p.m., to Sunday, July 11, 4 a.m. A power outage is scheduled for the duration of the project (six hours). However, all affected residents and businesses have been informed in advance.

Residents will notice an additional presence of construction crews and vehicles, which will include excavation work. Traffic control and lane reductions and signage will be in place. Kindly respect the traffic signage.

Work continues on Stephens and St. Denis Streets

Work is continuing on the reconstruction of Stephens Street and St. Denis Street in Vankleek Hill.

Construction began in May and is expected to continue into October. Motorists are advised to avoid the area if possible, as there is significant disruption to traffic on the two streets.

The work is being done by Cornwall Gravel Company Ltd. EVB Engineering is representing Champlain Township throughout the project.

The project includes full depth reconstruction of both streets and concrete curbs; localized repairs to the existing storm sewers, sanitary sewers and laterals; replacement of existing storm catch basins and sanitary maintenance holes; replacement of existing watermain valves and services.
