Impaired driver from Alberta arrested in Lachute

Shortly after 1 p.m. on Saturday May 15, MRC d’Argenteuil Sûreté du Québec officers were informed by a citizen of a vehicle being driven erratically on eastbound Autoroute 50 near kilometre 244 in Brownsburg-Chatham. Police located the vehicle still travelling eastbound on Autoroute 50 at kilometre 260. It was travelling 126 kilometres per hour in a 100 kilometre per hour zone.

Police stopped the vehicle and after routine checks, arrested the driver, a 34-year-old man from Calgary. The driver was impaired and found to have a blood alcohol level more than twice the legal limit. A small amount of illicit cannabis was also found in the vehicle.

The suspect was later released on a summons to appear and will have to return to court in Saint-Jérôme at a later date.  The suspect’s driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days and the vehicle was seized for 30 days.
