Wanted suspect with stolen vehicle arrested after skipping Grenville checkpoint

A weekend COVID-19 police checkpoint on the provincial boundary led to the arrest of man who was already wanted by police.

MRC d’Argenteuil Sûreté du Québec (SQ) officers were conducting a checkpoint on Sunday afternoon at around 5:00 p.m. near the Long Sault Bridge in Grenville when a vehicle refused to stop. The suspect later left the vehicle in the parking lot of a business on rue Maple/Route 344 and escaped on foot. He was quickly located by the police near the business, he was taken to the SQ station in Lachute afterwards. Checks showed that the vehicle was reported stolen by the Ottawa Police Service and that the suspect was also wanted under multiple arrest warrants.

The 22-year-old man from Boisbriand remains in custody and was scheduled to appear in court on Monday in Saint-Jérôme.
