The number of active cases of COVID-19 under Eastern Ontario Health Unit jurisdiction decreased only slightly between Thursday, January 21, and Friday, January 22.  As of Friday, there were 542 active cases, and there had been 544 on Thursday.

There were 21 COVID-19 patients from the EOHU’s territory in hospital as of January 22 and five of those patients were in intensive care.

The number of deaths resulting from COVID-19 across the area served by the EOHU increased to 50 on January 22 from 48 on January 21.

As of Friday, January 22, 1,715 people across the EOHU territory had been vaccinated against COVID-19.

Ontario statistics

The Provincewide Shutdown and stay-at-home order remain in effect across the province of Ontario.

As of January 22, there were 2,662 new, active cases of COVID-19 across Ontario from January 21.  According to calculations based on statistics from the Ministry of Health, there were 25,263 active cases of COVID-19 across Ontario as of Friday.

There were 1,512 COVID-19 patients in hospital across Ontario as of January 22.  Out of those patients, 383 were in intensive care, and 291 patients were on ventilators.

There had been 5,701 deaths due to COVID-19 across Ontario as of January 22, which was an increase of 87 deaths from January 21.
