One deceased, four taken to hospital following collision on County Road 17 in Alfred and Plantagenet

The Hawkesbury Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is currently investigating a five vehicle collision on County Road 17 in Alfred-Plantagenet Township.

Shortly after 8 a.m. on the morning of Tuesday, November 18, OPP officers, Alfred-Plantagenet Township Firefighters and Prescott-Russell Paramedics responded to the location, just west of County Road 9.

One driver, who was alone in the vehicle, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The identity of the victim is not being released at this time, as family members have not been notified. Four motorists were transported by ambulance to hospitals, including one with serious injuries.

The highway remains closed in the area, while an OPP Collision Reconstructionist, OPP Technical Collision Investigators and other officers continue to investigate. A short detour is in place.
