Eastern Ontario Health Unit (EOHU) Medical Officer of Health Dr. Paul Roumeliotis confirmed on Thursday, October 1 that a student at École élémentaire catholique St-Victor in Alfred had tested positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday, September 30.

Roumeliotis said that as of Thursday, it appeared that the case came from transmission in the community, and not within the school.

A case of COVID-19 has also been confirmed at École élémentaire catholique St-Joseph in Russell.

The EOHU is tracing the contacts each individual had with other people.  Parents have been notified, and both schools remained open as of Thursday.

As each school only has one case, neither is considered an official outbreak.  As of October 1, the only official school outbreak in effect under EOHU jurisdiction is at École élémentaire catholique Embrun: Pavilon St-Jean.
