The municipality of Grenville-sur-la-Rouge was one of the four finalists in a competition held by organic fruit snack maker Patience Fruit & Company to get support for the edible forest project it is developing this fall.

The prize from the Villeroy, Québec-based company includes a series of fruit trees and shrubs, which will be planted in front of the municipal building.  According to Grenville-sur-la-Rouge Councillor Natalia Czarnecka, the prize is worth $6,500.

Points for finalists to win the prize were allocated based on their financial needs for consultation for layout and development, and for training and follow-up following the completion of the project.

This initiative will allow more people to have access to local, organic, and abundant food, in addition to offering educational activities from planting.

The establishment of the edible forest in Grenville-sur-la-Rouge will take place on October 23, 2020 and the inauguration will take place in spring 2021.

Czarnecka said that volunteers will maintain the site.
