The total number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the jurisdiction of the Eastern Ontario Health Unit (EOHU) on Sunday, May 31, increased to 148 from 147 on Saturday, May 30.
The number of resolved cases of COVID-19 within EOHU jurisdiction on Sunday was 114, which means there were 33 active cases compared to 55 on Saturday. Out of the 33 cases, there were 28 active cases among residents of the United Counties of Prescott and Russell and 79 resolved cases. Among residents of the United Counties of Stormont, Dundas, and Glengarry (SD & G) on Saturday, there were six active cases and 20 resolved cases. In the City of Cornwall, there were zero active cases as of Sunday.
Among the active cases within the EOHU territory on Sunday, three patients were in hospital, and one patient was in intensive care.
All COVID-19 outbreaks at long-term care facilities within the jurisdiction of the EOHU were resolved as of May 30. The largest outbreak had been at Pinecrest Nursing Home in Plantagenet where COVID-19 had resulted in the death of 11 residents. The other recent outbreak had been at Maxville Manor.
Testing for all
COVID-19 testing is now open to all residents of the EOHU territory, even if they do not have symptoms of the illness. As of May 30, 8,585 people had been tested by the EOHU and paramedics. The total does not include people who were tested for COVID-19 at hospital emergency rooms.
There were 27,859 confirmed cases of COVID-19 across the province of Ontario on Sunday, May 31. That total was a 1.2 per cent increase from 27,533 confirmed cases on Saturday, May 30. Out of the total number of confirmed cases on May 31, 21,810, or 78.3 per cent of the 27,859 cases were listed by the Ministry of Health as resolved. That means 6,049 cases remained active.
Throughout Ontario on May 31, 718,341 people had been tested so far for COVID-19.
Across Ontario on May 31, there were 781 COVID-19 patients in hospital. Out of that number, 118 patients were in intensive care and 90 patients were on ventilators.
As of Sunday, there had been 2,266 deaths due to COVID-19 across Ontario, which was an increase from 2,247 deaths on Saturday. Out of the 2,266 deaths, 1,438 or 63.5 per cent of them had been in residents of long-term care facilities.
