It will soon be easier to take a driving test, or renew driver’s licences, vehicle registration, and health insurance cards in Québec.

The Société de l’assurance automobile du Québec (SAAQ) will add, as of June 1, the option of walk-in service at its outlets.  The option is already available at some agency outlets this week. Customers can choose between making an appointment, with a commitment to respect the meeting time, or going directly to a service point and waiting in line to complete their transaction. In both cases, customers will be responsible for respecting public health measures.

To avoid the queue, making an appointment can be done by going online on the Company’s website, at saaq.gouv.qc.ca, or by phone, at 1 855 564-3170.

Several of our license and registration agents are now open. It is recommended to contact them directly to make an appointment or to find out if it is possible to come without an appointment. You can find the contact information for agents by going to the SAAQ website at saaq.gouv.qc.ca/trouver-point-de-service/.

Driving tests

Theoretical exams are again offered. It is now possible to make an appointment to take a theoretical exam from the SAAQ`s online services. With regard to practical driving tests, the SAAQ is reviewing the physical organization and the supply of necessary equipment in order to carry them out in accordance with public health requirements.  An announcement will be made in the coming weeks.

Online options

Online services are also available and remain the best way to complete a transaction quickly, while avoiding travel. Individuals can in particular store, demote and discard their vehicle as well as pay for their renewal of driver`s licences and registration.

The SAAQ is automatically renews expiring driver’s licenses. Individuals will receive a permit with the most recent photo in their file by mail as well as a payment notice. They therefore do not have to travel to obtain this service.

The SAAQ continues to keep its customers informed of the evolution of the resumption of services through press releases, frequently asked questions on its website or on social media. For general questions, customers can call 1 800 361-7620.
