UCPR Emergency Services Department appeals for protective equipment

The United Counties of Prescott and Russell (UCPR) Emergency Services Department is seeking donations of personal protective equipment from residents and businesses for paramedics to use.

With the growing COVID-19 pandemic, the supply of these important items is getting low. Access to new stock has been difficult and back orders have not started to come in yet. The current stock is still at an acceptable level, but the department anticipates an increase in use within the next few weeks.

They are looking for the following items:

  • N95 masks
  • Surgical masks
  • Hand sanitizer
  • Face shields
  • Surgical gowns
  • Non-latex gloves

Anything that can be donated to ensure that paramedics remain protected during this crisis would be greatly appreciated. Please communicate with the UCPR Emergency Services. Call 613-880-7180 during business hours or send an e-mail 24 hours a day. We will arrange for the safe pickup of any stock at the point of contact.

According to Eastern Ontario Health Unit Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Paul Roumeliotis, there are enough materials at this time, but that could change in future weeks, depending on demand.

He said one of the problems is that many of the items are manufactured in China–where COVID-19 originated and initially had the most cases.

Roumeliotis said a substantial order of new protective equipment will be arriving in Ontario in the next couple of days.
