Vankleek Hill Foodland franchisee Kelsey Parent has been selected for Foodland International Women’s Day 2020 Store Operator Award.  It It is the first year for this award, which recognizes women who excel in both leadership and business outcomes.

Kelsey Parent has built numerous relationships within her community; with school lunch programs as well as with local business partners where she has helped to grow their businesses by promoting products front and centre in her store. Some of these include: Garden Path Homemade Soap, McCaig Honey and Beau’s beer to name a few of the products she showcases.

Parent’s strengths go well beyond the relationships she has built with the community.  Kelsey provides a nurturing environment for her staff; in recent years, she has promoted her Deli Manager (Karen), her Produce Manager (Aya), her Meat Manager (Alyssa), her Bakery Manager (Wendy),  her Front End manager (Valerie) and her Grocery Manager (Eric) all from within the store. Parent not only creates pathways for her staff to thrive through training and support but also pushes herself to be the best, asking to be involved in any and all banner initiatives, be it support for a new store opening or simply providing insight on new programs, she is always the first to offer her and her employees help when needed.

In a further effort to provide the community with the best shopping experience, Kelsey personally fought to have the by-law changed allowing her to open for all holidays except Christmas and Easter Sunday, thus allowing her community to stay and shop local instead of travelling to the larger communities.

When it comes to driving sales, her numbers speak for themselves, she is currently running at a 7.5% increase in sales year over year! That is no easy task for a small community with large box stores only a few kilometres away.  She has managed to gain this momentum by supporting her community, providing a consistent offering in a well merchandised and extremely clean store!
