The Eastern Ontario Health Unit (EOHU) is planning to open five locations where people can be tested for COVID-19 across Prescott-Russell and Stormont-Dundas, and Glengarry.
According to Medical Officer of Health Dr. Paul Roumeliotis, the testing sites will better allow hospitals to concentrate on serving vulnerable people in serious need of medical care.
The testing facilities will be staffed by public health and hospital staff, and paramedics with the aim of reducing the burden on hospital emergency rooms.
Preparation for the testing centres is still underway and when they open will depend on how—or if the virus affects the region served by the EOHU. However, they will likely open during the remainder of March.
The exact site locations are still being determined, but they could be in vacant storefronts or other buildings.
