Fatal collision on Autoroute 50 under investigation

A fatal head-on crash took place on Autoroute 50 in Grenville-sur-la-Rouge on Sunday afternoon.

First responders arrived just after 1 p.m. after a van travelling eastbound went into the westbound lane and hit an oncoming recreational vehicle.

The driver of the recreational vehicle, a 50-year-old man from Mirabel, died at the scene.

The van driver had to be extricated from the vehicle and is in critical, but stable condition in hospital.

Sûreté du Québec (SQ) investigators have visited the scene to determine the causes and circumstances surrounding the collision, which has now been turned over to the Major Crimes Unit.

Autoroute 50 was closed in both directions for several hours between Chemin Kilmar/Exit 233, and Route 344/Exit 239.
