Hot and dry ground means the risk of wildfires increases.

Russell Township was the first to introduce a fire ban; Champlain Township announced its fire ban on Tuesday, August 6, prohibiting all open fires and campfires.

In municipalities where fires are still permitted, residents should still consult with the local fire department about the rules before making a fire.

The Township of North Glengarry also announced a fire ban a few days ago.

The Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry is not reporting any wildfires in Eastern Ontario at this time.

In Québec, SOPFEU, the provincial wildfire agency, has listed the fire hazard as “highly elevated” for its Montréal North district, which includes the MRC d’Argenteuil.  The hazard for the Gatineau region is “elevated.”
