The Glengarry Earth Day Planning Committee is organizing the First Annual Glengarry Earth Day event on Saturday April 27th, 2019, at Island Park, from 12 noon to 5pm. The committee’s goal is to showcase positive, non-partisan, innovative and collaborative ideas and potential solutions to environmental problems, both locally and globally.
There will be multiple presentations and demonstrations provided by local companies and organizations geared to promote and educate people on the importance of sustainability within our community. Some of the topics include Low Waste Living, Organic Agriculture, Permaculture, Pollinators, Reducing Home Energy Use, Solar net-metering, Water Preservation and Water Recycling, Woodlots, and Worm Composting. Outside, there will be rain barrels for sale, an early Farmer’s Market, and a display of locally-owned electric vehicles.
Children will have an opportunity to plant seeds in a pot they make themselves out of newspaper. The SDG Library will be organizing a craft.
Prior to the start of the event, Friends of the Glengarry Trails will lead a two-kilometre walk starting at 11 a.m. at Island Park. Also at 11 and 11:30, the Alexandria Water Plant will conduct tours of their facility.
