Hawks use four goal second period to down 73’s

The middle frame was the difference maker for the Hawkesbury Junior “A” Hawks in their game against the Kemptville 73’s this Sunday.

After a first period that ended with the Hawks trailing Kemptville 1-0, the Hawks’ Luke Grainger would score on the power play to tie the game just past the one minute mark of the second. Kemptville would retake the lead on a power play of their own only three minutes later; however, the Hawks would not be deterred. Grainger would respond with his second of the game to even things out once more, before a goal from Samuel Hatto would give the Hawks the lead at the seven minute mark of the period. Bradley Shaw would add another with five seconds left in the frame for the 4-2 lead. Kemptville would make things interesting with a goal in the final two minutes of play but Jeremie Lavalee would seal the game for the Hawks with an empty net tally to give the Hawks a 5-3 victory. Nick Stofchek would make 27 saves to pick up the win in nets for the Hawks, while Grainger would finish the night with two goals and an assist.

The Hawks return to action Tuesday, February 26 when they visit the Smiths Falls Bears.
