There’s a reason why Russell, Ontario was ranked the third-best place to live in Canada. It’s because of people like Russell resident Loretta Roper. Known to many as their neighbourhood Avon Lady, Loretta is a shining example of how kindness runs deep in this small community.

Earlier this week, Mrs. Roper drove two hours from Russell to Montreal to Avon’s Canadian Headquarters to surprise Avon associates with enough baked goods to feed 500 hundred people. It was her way of saying thanks to those who work behind the scenes to help support her Avon business.

Avon Associates were visibly moved by Mrs Roper’s generosity, but for Roper, it was just a typical day. Paying it forward comes naturally to this former high school teacher. Not only does she donate all of her earnings from her Avon business to local area charities, but she also gives back by donating her time and support to local food banks, family centres and those in need. Later that same day, Roper had plans to stop off in Casselman to bring an ailing friend some desserts and much-needed company to help lift her spirits. The way Roper sees it, “Never squash anyone’s dreams because that’s all they may have that day.”
