September is Library Card Sign-up Month! Champlain Library will be heading to local schools to invite and encourage all students to get their own library cards.
Champlain Library cards are free to anyone living in Champlain Township and East Hawkesbury. What you may not know is that they are also free to every student attending a school in Champlain regardless of their home address. This is a big incentive for kids to come in and read! Studies show that children who are read to in the home and who use the library perform better in school and are more likely to continue to use the library as a source of lifetime learning.
Champlain Library also offers a variety of programs to stimulate children’s interest in reading and learning. The library’s preschool story hours introduce young children to the joy of reading, listening, fine motor skills and how to make friends. There are also have many free programs geared toward the 5-13 age range. From book and Lego clubs to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) programs and crafts. There are activities on the go all year long.
The library offers study areas, laptops as well as Wi Fi for homework sessions. In addition to books, magazines, DVDs, CDs, and other multimedia materials, patrons have access to e-books and an e-book reader.
The library is one of the only places people of all ages and backgrounds can find and freely use such a diversity of resources. Library staff members look forward to being able to serve you and hope you take the time to come in and get a new library card. It’s your gateway to knowledge! Every new member of the library who signs up during the month of September will receive a free tote bag. For more information call us at 613-678-2216 or visit www.bc-cl.ca.
