On the morning of June 9, 2018, cadets from the 57 SD&G Highlanders Army Cadet Corps celebrated one year of training during their annual ceremonial review parade.

This marked the 78th edition of the review and the event was held at Vankleek Hill Collegiate Institute (VCI). The 57 Highlanders Cadets have been around since 1899. (Photo credit: Cedrik Bertrand)

“All our cadets will be dressed in their finest, be marching on parade and there will be demonstrations all around after,” said Captain Steve Campbell, the cadets’ Commanding Officer.

These annual reviews give the cadets a chance te demonstrate what they have learned to their loved ones and members of the community.

Cadets aged 12 to 18 were present at the review. Some of the cadets present have also been part of the organization for many years and have received medals for their dedication.

The aura of pride around the event was palpable. As the cadets marched into the room, it was clear that each cadet had respect for their Officers, the dignitaries present, the spectators and, of course, their fellow cadets.

“The cadet program is based on community service, leadership, physical fitness and awareness of the Canadian Forces – even though they are not soldiers. All that boils down to making better canadian citizens, people who are well-rounded and able to take the lead when they have to,” proudly stated Captain Campbell.
