United Way Prescott-Russell and the Canadian Red Cross are proposing to initiate a community conversation to help identify medium and long-term needs in order to help those affected by the Spring 2017 flooding.

The May flooding affected many Prescott-Russell residents, and community members quickly rallied to help them. After coping with the disaster and the daily emergencies that followed, those affected are now trying to resume a normal life while continuing cleaning, repair and replacement activities. However, the psychological damage inflicted by this experience is long-lasting, requiring support over the medium and long term. The Canadian Red Cross already provided immediate assistance in the days following the flooding (made possible by donations from Canadians across the country) and is continuing its needs analysis in order to further help those eligible as a result of the floods.

This first meeting therefore aims to start a community conversation and exchange information. Representatives from private funding initiatives will also be invited to join the conversation, if they so choose.
