The Vankleek Hill Farmers’ Market will be presenting the 15th annual Strawberry Social this Sunday, July 9 at 2 p. m. This year, the dessert – a strawberry shortcake with lavender blossoms, crème anglaise and whipped cream – will be prepared the day before by a bevy of students from the Vankleek Hill Collegiate Institute (VCI) working under the tutelage of Chef Bruce Wood, who is a frequent guest of the Farmers’ Market’s popular Cooking Demonstrations. Tickets to the social are $6 at the door, and a portion of the proceeds will go to the VCI Graduating Committee in exchange for their participation in preparing and serving at the event.
Also on schedule for this weekend is the Horse and Buggy Parade, an event showcasing old-fashioned and antique carriages and buggies. The parade will begin at 1 p.m., departing from the fairgrounds to proceed through the village. Visitors are encouraged to attend the Strawberry Social after the parade. There will also be a Driving Competition at the fairgrounds at 2:30 in the afternoon.
