Arbor Gallery Cultural Centre is excited to offer a special hat making workshop on May 13 from 1-4 p.m. at the gallery. The workshop is part of the Our Canadian Heritage Festival on May 21 which will feature a Hat Competition from 10:00- 10:30 a.m. for adults and children, and a children’s parade starting at 11:15 a.m. from the main stage area.

The workshop, called Victorian Hats of the Future, will be led by Vankleek Hill’s own “Hat Lady,” Tina Trineer, who has spent years creating whimsical winter hats in the Wakefield and Ottawa areas. Participants will create anything from a steampunk top hat to a wide-brimmed hat full of nests and birds, or perhaps a painted hat with a tiny cityscape along the brim. The possibilities are practically endless and Tina will have plenty of options to get people inspired.

There will be countless, fun, up-cylcing options that she will bring, along with enough hats and materials for each participant, who are also permitted to bring their own hats and any special items they’d like to add. The workshop is suitable for children ages eight years and up, as hot glue guns and scissors will be used, and the cost, per child, is only $5. Parents may accompany their children, and perhaps even make a hat of their own, but parental supervision is not required.

The workshop will be three hours long so that no one will feel rushed, but if their hat is done early, children are welcome to leave with their parent. Everyone is encouraged to bring a water bottle and light snack and wear appropriate clothing.

This fabulous and fun workshop is likely to fill up quickly as there are only 15 spaces available. You can sign up in person at Arbor Gallery on 36 Home Avenue. The Gallery is open Wednesday between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., and Thursday through Sunday between 12 and 4 p.m. You can also call the Gallery at 613-518-2787 to reserve your spot or you can sign up online at [email protected]. In all cases, you will be asked to provide the age of your child, whether or not you will be accompanying them, and your telephone number. Registration will close by May 10 or as soon 15 people have signed up. For further information please leave a message at Arbor Gallery Cultural Centre: 613-518-2787.
