Works by Susan Fowler and Barbara Wisnoski

The Arbor Gallery is pleased to present a duo exhibition entitled Parallel Paths/Voies Parallèles from May 3 to June 4, 2017. The vernissage will be held on Sunday May 7 from 2 to 5 p.m.

Both artists live and work in Montreal. Susan Fowler is originally from California and completed an honours BFA in studio art at Concordia University. Barbara Wisnoski obtained her BFA in sculpture and fibres and recently completed an MA in Art History, both from Concordia University in Art History at Concordia University. She obtained her BFA in sculpture and fibres from the same University.

The exhibition features a selection of Susan’s mixed media collage works on canvas and a series of Barbara’s recent textile works.

Many parallels can be drawn between the processes of each artist; although they use different mediums, their approaches are similar in that the materials they use are re -appropriated to create new images and a new aesthetic.

Repetition of patterns, forms, lines, colour and texture are created and take on a new meaning and life with memory and time playing a part in the process.

Barbara creates patterns of subtle colour in fabric, fabric that has history and has been cut and sewn to compose an image and mood.

This repetitious act is an important part of the process. Susan’s work also uses various recycled materials to create patterns and layers that become a new whole. Patterns of form and line are repeated in subtly different textures and colours. Lines are sometimes playful sometimes formal. Both artists have developed unique processes.

The exhibition will be held until June 4.
