Firefighters applauded for community service, voluntarism and years served
Vankleek Hill volunteer firefighter Louis Turcotte received a plaque in honour of his 25 years of service with the Vankleek Hill fire department. Champlain Township Mayor Gary Barton presented him with the plaque at the firefighters’ annual dance, which took place at the Vankleek Hill Community Centre on Saturday evening. The event, which was a fundraiser for firefighting equipment, included a silent auction, which raised more than $2,000. (Photo Louise Sproule)

Vankleek Hill Fire Chief Michel Martin chose three firefighters as “Firefighter of the Year,” because, he said, it was impossible to select just one outstanding firefighter. Seen here are firefighters: Richard Burton, Tyler McMahon and Devin Henderson. It is worth noting that Henderson had just spent the day volunteering his time to direct traffic on Vankleek Hill’s busy Main Street during the annual Christmas Home Tour. (Photo Louise Sproule)
