Blacksmiths from near and far will be gathering to showcase their work and demonstrate their skill at the Glengarry Pioneer Museum for the first ever Smith-In blacksmith festival on June 25 and 26 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.
Admission for the event is $10 for adults ($5 for members), $5 for youth and admission for children under 12 is free. The fee covers the blacksmith event as well as full admission to the museum buildings.
During the two-day festival, multiple blacksmiths will be working with their portable forges to bend, cut and create objects from steel and iron. Attendees can watch the artisans hard at work and learn about the different stages of creating with metal.
The event will cater to people of all ages. There will be games for children, including a blacksmith themed eye-spy game, colouring and a horseshoe pit. In the school house, you can sit, relax and watch an educational video explaining blacksmithing and how the craft has evolved.
Food and beverage will also be available for purchase on site. The lunch menu includes chili and hot dogs, with a variety of refreshments and extra snacks. The Star Inn will be licensed for this event and cold beer from Cassel Brewery will be served starting at 11 a.m. on both days.
Every Friday in July under the pavilion, the Glengarry Twistle Guild members will be showcasing the ancient art of spinning and weaving. All are welcome to watch, learn and bring their own projects to work on.
