Seyler, Johann Jakob “Hans”

May 9, 2023

November 1, 1930 – April 30, 2023

It is with sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Hans Seyler, my beloved husband, our dear father and cherished Opa, on Sunday, April 30, 2023 at the age of 92. Hans leaves behind his wife of 66 years Helga (née Scheller), his children Margit (Holker Pfannebecker), Hans-Jakob (Maria Michel), Iris (Elmar Henrich), Christina (Shawn McNiven), Michaela (Andrew McKenzie), and Indra (Ralf Herpolsheimer), as well as his sister Tina Minrath and family. He cherished the company of his 13 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren (Maximilian, Konstantin, Christopher, Rafael, Niklas, Samuel, Ildiko, Konrad, Hamish, Willem, Jakob, Luna, Cosmo, Charlotte and Marlene). He lived life on his terms. A lifelong farmer, Hans built a second home in Canada in midlife. Born in Worms-Wiesoppenheim, Germany on November 1, 1930 to the late Anna Maria (née Kissel) and the late Jakob Seyler. Following many years of working the family farm, Hans immigrated to Alfred, ON, Canada in 1982 at age 51, alongside his family. The generational Horsecreek Farm remained his life’s purpose and fulfilled his dream of independence. He was happiest among the animals, tilling the field, catching up with family and friends near and far, and regaling us with never-ending stories. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, June 3, 2023 at 10:30 am at St. Victor Church in Alfred. The family will be present at the church from 9:30 am to receive condolences. For those who wish, by clicking the ‘‘Live Stream’’ button on Mr. Seyler’s webpage on the website identified below, you will have access to the Service that will be live streamed on the date and time identified above. Sincere thank you to the Hawkesbury and District General Hospital C2 East and CCC Rehabilitation staff for their devoted care over the last few months.
