Barbara Audrey Ann Redmond (née Monteith), a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on August 22, 2023, at the age of 92. Barbara was born on June 2, 1931, in Verdun, Quebec, and spent her formative years there with her cherished parents, Lena and Clifford, and her brother, Wilburt.
Barbara’s sparkling eyes and radiant smile had a way of lighting up any room and putting everyone at ease. Family meant everything to her, and she adored her husband, John Patrick, and their eight children: John (Louise), Peter (Elisa), Mark (Jacqui), Paul (Ella), Patrick (Heather), Robert (Denise), Ann-Marie (Tamsin), and Valerie (Richard). She was also a loving grandmother to thirteen grandchildren: Jackie, Robin, Richard, Mitchell, Tara, Chelsea, Spencer, Jackson, Curtis, Ilish, Jude, Emma, and Harrison. Barbara’s legacy extended to her eleven great-grandchildren: Hunter, Grace, Dylan, Logan, Brooke, Avery, Quinn, Dawson, Jacob, Rebel and Rowan.
Barbara was the beating heart of the family with her effervescent and lively personality. Her incredible warmth was always evident as she remembered every birthday, anniversary and graduation and took every opportunity possible to gather family and celebrate with a slice of cake.
Some of Barbara’s fondest memories were of summers spent with her cousins, Conway, Valerie, Diane, Paula, and Judy, on Lac Theodore in the Laurentians. Over the years, she and her family created countless cherished memories while living in Pointe Claire, Quebec, and later in Vankleek Hill, Ontario. Barbara had a passion for interior decorating and took great pleasure in restoring their Victorian farmhouse and creating beautiful gardens. She was a domestic genius! In 2015, she and Pat moved to Cobourg, Ontario, where they enjoyed building a new community of friends. Barbara also discovered her talent for painting and left behind many lovely works of art for her family to treasure.
Visitation to celebrate Barbara’s life took place on Sunday, August 27, at McCoubrey Funeral Home in Cobourg, Ontario. A Funeral Mass took place Monday, August 28, 2023 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Cobourg, Ontario followed by a reception at MacCoubrey Funeral Home. Barbara will be laid to rest at a private family interment at St. Michael’s Cemetery, Cobourg, Ontario at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Northumberland Hills Hospital Patient Rehab or Covenant House. These organizations held special meaning to Barbara, and any contributions made in her memory would be greatly appreciated.
Barbara will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. May she rest in eternal peace, forever in our hearts.
