Peter Ronald Wass, 90 years young, passed away peacefully in his sleep on February 17, 2026. Peter was predeceased by his parents, Matthew Harold Wass and Myrtle Waugh, sister Judy and his beloved life partner of over 50 years, Robert Winston Arnott. He will be fondly remembered by his sister Beverley, nieces and nephews and a community that adored him. Peter will be warmly remembered for his vibrant personality, boundless curiosity, playful wit, and a Fu Manchu mustache impressive enough to rival that of any wizard. Peter drew people to him like a moth to a flame. Peter was born in Montréal on December 27, 1935. He enjoyed a typical youth of the times and a 25-year career as an engraver for the Montréal Gazette. Upon retirement, he and Bob began living on the farm full time and operating the Remo-Deli in Hawkesbury, much to the delight of their loyal regulars. Despite the air of a social butterfly, Peter was a disciplined and dedicated worker and a man of his word. When not working, he could be found at every auction, estate sale, yard sale and, of course, the Lachute Market every Tuesday. His thoughtfulness towards friends and strangers alike was as boundless as the fond memories we now have of him to cherish. A gathering to celebrate Peter’s life will be held at the Vankleek Hill Curling Club on Sunday, March 15, 2026, from 1:00 to 4:00 pm, and all family and friends are welcome to attend. We extend our sincere appreciation to Walford on the Hill (Heritage Lodge) and their compassionate staff and to the amazing nurses and doctors at Hawkesbury General Hospital. We are eternally grateful.
