MEHNER, RUTH MAGDALENA BERTHA (nee Jungermann)
May 10, 1923 – December 3, 2016
It is with great sadness that the family of Ruth Mehner announces her peaceful passing on Saturday, December 3, 2016. Ruth was born in Bielefeld, Germany, and in 1952 she travelled with two young children to join our father, who was already in Canada; first to Montreal, and St. Eustache, QC then Vankleek Hill, ON. When our father retired, they moved to their cottage property on the Rouge River (Grenville-sur-la-Rouge), where they had built a permanent home, and lived there another 30 years. She was very active in the choir and UCW of Trinity (VKH) United Church and also a long-time member of the WI (VKH Ever-ready Chapter) and 4-H leader. She also trained as a Visiting Homemaker for the VON. During her years at the Rouge, she attended Avoca United Church as a choir member and was frequently a hostess of the Bible Study Group. Mother was a good cook, excellent baker and accomplished seamstress. Our home was always a comfortable, welcoming place where she enjoyed caring for her family, as well as hosting neighbours and many friends. Due to failing health, for the last two years she resided at Woodland Villa in Long Sault. Predeceased by her husband, (William “Bill” Mehner), and two sisters in Germany. Lovingly remembered by her brother, Gerhard Jungermann of Brantford, ON, her adopted sister, Rosel Reichelt of Germany, her children, Udo (Carole) of Salisbury, NB, Elke Brown (Peter) of Chesterville, ON, Gabrielle (Gaby) Becker of Hawkesbury, and her grandchildren, Christopher and Beth Mehner, Mark and Paul Brown, and Karl Becker. She was very proud to be the great-grandmother of Nicholas and Norah, Gavin and Landon, and the great-great-grandmother of Brantley. Also fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews in Canada, the US and Germany. A private family service of remembrance will be held in the spring.
