Hyde, Wendell

Jun 14, 2021

On Wednesday, June 9th, 2021 Wendell Hamilton Hyde passed away peacefully at the age of 78 in his own home surrounded by his wife, Reenie Marx, son, Matthew Hyde, daughter of the heart, Katie Fletcher, and best friend Eric Garsonnin. The brain cancer that shortened his life dramatically, also gave him 3 of the best months of his life, which he lived to the fullest. He made time for healing conversations, thanked those who had meant so much to him, and even went back to Rivington one last time to see the log home he’d built and lived in for 40 years. It was a time of facing deep truths and embracing the card he had been dealt. When the final moment came, he walked through that door without fear or regret. They say it takes a village to raise a child, and I would add that it takes a village to send one of its beloved characters on his way. So many people helped us, in so many different ways. Here are just a few who we want to thank publicly: Brian McCormick, Lisa and Mark Henderson, Reg and Rosemary Harden, Miria Balidawwa, Dr. Johanne Robert and Cynthia Wilson, Dr. Val Rossbach, Wendy Watson, George at the Vankleek Hill Pharmacy, Jean and Frank Brodie, the Vankleek Hill Quilt Guild, Bonnie Laing, Susie Fairbrother, Lise Beliveau, Tom Maxwell, Bob and Kim, Alison Collard, Nick Goursky, the entire “old farts club,” Rudy and Murray Wilson, and Ron Urquhart. A fuller tribute, in words and photos, will appear on the webpage at Hillcrest Funeral Home. Wendell’s interment and celebration of life will be either Saturday, June 19th  or Sunday the 20th, depending on the weather. Time: 1:00 p.m, at the St. Andrews East Protestant Cemetery, St-Andre-d’Argenteuil, Quebec. Final confirmation of the date will be available as of Thursday, June 17th  on Hillcrest Funeral Home’s website.  If you wish to make a donation in remembrance of Wendell, The Vankleek Hill Food Bank would be deeply appreciated.
