With heavy hearts, we say goodbye to Derek Richard “Dick” Dunbar, who passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 27th, following a brief illness. Predeceased by his beloved wife, Lois Pope Dunbar, and his brother, John Dunbar, he leaves behind his sons, Michael (Lisa) and Deron (Corie); his cherished grandchildren, Ryan, Megan, Rylen, and Brynn, of whom he was so proud; his sister, Mary; and many dear friends.
Born in Westmount, Quebec in 1936, Dick grew up as an enthusiastic athlete, sharing countless adventures with his dear friend, Don “Tino” Tinning. He studied at Sir George Williams University and had a career that took him across Canada, ending in Montreal, where he led a sales team at Robco. Dick’s true joy was in Harrington, Quebec, on Lake MacDonald, where served as Chief of the volunteer fire department, was an active member of town council, raised his boys, and spent most of his retirement years.
A man of curiosity and wit, Dick was passionate about hockey, football, trains, airplanes, and feeding backyard birds, chipmunks and the deer at the lake. He loved sharing stories and lived with a warm heart and a joyful spirit. He will be profoundly missed.
A joint Celebration of Life for our Mom and Dad will be held on November 16th at 1pm at the Shaw cemetery with a reception to follow.
The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the Doctors, Nurses & Staff at the ICU unit at the Hawkesbury Hospital for their sincere kindness, support and care shown to our Dad during his stay.
The family requests those who wish to express sympathy to consider making a donation to the Hawkesbury & District General Hospital at the following link (www.imakeanonlinedonation.org) in Dick’s name.
