On Thursday, August 20, Champlain Township Council unanimously approved a proposal that will allow an outdoor recycling operation for asphalt shingles at 1288 County Road 17. The operation is planned for a vacant 2.1-hectare property located near Ivaco Rolling Mills.
Consulting Planner Nikita Jariwala said the operation will involve shredding, sorting, and storing asphalt shingles before transporting them to another facility for processing into reusable materials. No buildings are planned for the site.

The zoning change takes the property from Restricted Industrial (ML) to a special exemption zone, ML-15, under which an outdoor recycling depot is permitted.
Jariwala concluded that the proposal fits with the area’s existing industrial designation and is consistent with provincial and regional planning policies.
