Horses, cattle, and demolition derby cars get a lot of attention at fairs, but the competitions that go on inside the buildings for the best crops, produce, and flowers are important to the farmers and growers who cultivate the land and tend to gardens.
At the Vankleek Hill Fair, Matt Dandy and his son Lyle received first prize ribbons for their shelled corn, oats, and first cut of hay. Allen Dandy, Matt’s father and Lyle’s grandfather, was especially proud of their accomplishments as he looked at the crops and the prize results at the fair.
