There was a fire at a house on Regent Street in Hawkesbury during the afternoon of Friday, May 29. The fire occurred on the south side of the street near the intersection with Hamilton Street.
According to Hawkesbury Fire Chief Brian Wilson, the fire department received the call at about 1 pm and firefighters were at the scene by 1:04 pm. Wilson said the fire was in a boat being stored between two buildings. The fire was under control by 1:12 pm.
There were no injuries, but one pet was lost due to the fire. Wilson said there was significant damage to the rear area of both houses. One was divided into three apartments, and the other into two apartments. Wilson said Victim Services and the Red Cross arrived to assist the residents. Their ability to return to their homes will be based on renovation needs and assessment by insurance companies.
In a video submitted by a nearby individual, smoke was seen rising from the back of a house. Hydro linemen also arrived and disconnected the power to the properties.
