On Thursday, May 14, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., students, staff, families, and community members gathered at Vankleek Hill Collegiate Institute (VCI) for an evening filled with creativity, performance, and appreciation during the annual Arts Show Night.
The event showcased the many artistic talents of VCI students through visual arts, drama, music, choir, and dance performances. The night began with an art exhibition featuring student artwork displayed in the entrance area of the school and throughout the library. Guests had the opportunity to walk through the exhibit, admire the students’ hard work, and even purchase some of the artwork on display.
Following the exhibition, VCI drama students performed a short 30-minute play that entertained the audience with strong performances and plenty of enthusiasm. The evening then continued with a music concert and choir performances, where students demonstrated their musical talents through a variety of songs and instrumental pieces.
To conclude the performances, VCI dancers took the stage and delivered an energetic dance performance that received loud applause from the crowd.
Near the end of the evening, highlights of the Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM) program available at VCI were shared with attendees. The presentation helped showcase the opportunities students have to gain valuable experience and specialized learning in different career pathways.
One of the most memorable moments of the night came during a special appreciation for VCI arts teacher Gisele Paquette, who is retiring at the end of this school year. Students and staff took time to recognize her dedication, passion, and contributions to the arts program over the years. The appreciation ended with a heartfelt round of applause from everyone in attendance.
The VCI Arts Show Night was a successful celebration of student creativity, hard work, and the strong arts community within the school.
